The VR theme is as relevant as ever. Many companies have already submitted their devices: some of them work with a PC, and some need a smartphone to work. But today we decided to talk about a new device, called AOMWAY Commander V1. In this review, we’ll look at the AOMWAY Commander V1 for the main functions and what it’s all about.

Let’s remember that one of the cheapest and simple VR-helmets was Google Cardboard, made of cardboard and two lenses. But this device is much more complicated and interesting. Well, let’s start, and first look at the main specification AOMWAY Commander V1.
AOMWAY COMMANDER V1 SPECIFICATION:
- 854 x 480px WVGA display;
- HDMI connector with supports 720P;
- Two built-in 5.8G 40CH highly sensitive receivers;
- Supports 3D / 2D image, adjustment of IPD (59 – 69mm)
- DVR function, NTSC / PAL / Auto;
- Supports head tracker and installation of optical lenses;
- Anti-fog fan, comfortable eye mask.
From the specification, you can notice that this is not an easy device, and it is intended for professionals who like to play FPV racing.
This is really true because FPV Goggles data have excellent capabilities to gain experience in their use.
DESIGN: AOMWAY COMMANDER V1
Appearance AOMWAY Commander V1 look stylish, and it’s cute sunglasses that are made of quality materials. For example, the inside is covered with a soft, absorbent cloth. Therefore, you will feel comfortable when you fly on your drones or when watching your favorite movies in FPV Goggles.
The Commander V1 also has ports such as a 3.5mm audio output connector, which connects you to stereo sound.
Also here you can find such outputs as AV IN and DC IN that have 3.5mm audio-video interface and standard 5.5 x 2.1mm plug respectively.
But quite an important part is the presence of Headtracker interface for the PS2 terminal.
If we look at the bottom of the device, we will notice the following ports, like head track plug, AVin / out plug and also a miniHDMI port.
As you can see the weight of this device is not small, and is 200grams, and all of the complete set has a little less than 1kg.
DISPLAY: AOMWAY COMMANDER V1
As we said in the specification, this device Commander V1 has 854 x 480px WVGA display. This is a good display, which can show a picture, as in RF mode (2D or 3D).
Let’s look at the main ranges and frequencies that are displayed in the upper left corner when you are wearing glasses.
If the DVR mode is on, then the word “REC” is displayed in the upper right corner of the device.
As you can see, there is no information about the RSSD of the OSD, and it’s really sad.
The device has built-in screens, which offers a fairly sharp display, but I found that the sky and its shades are black and slightly better brightness than on the monitor screen.
To start recording the video, from the beginning you need to press the central right stick for 3 seconds, and again quickly press to turn on or off the video recording mode.
Let’s talk about the DVR menu. To enable this menu, you need to turn off the radio frequency mode. In this case, you must press the left center button for more than 3 seconds, and then press the right center button of the joystick for more than 3 seconds.
The interface of the Commander V1 menu is basic, and when extracting from the HMDVR / Everyone pro DVR, but there are 3 more options available:
- Play the recorded file;
- Format the microSD card;
- Select the recording mode.
Unfortunately, here is no HMDVR module of all menu settings.
Regardless of the source of the radio signal, the roofing felts in NTSC or PAL format, still, all the files will be recorded in VGA format (640 × 480 pixels) at a rate of 25 frames per second.
What does this mean? It’s simple; here first the video should decrease from D1 NTSC (720 × 480 pixels at 30 frames per second) to VGA (640 × 480 pixels at 25 frames per second).
The good side is that there is no trimming, so all OSD data with the GPS module will be displayed correctly. The bit rate of the Commander V1 is 5.7kbs.
CONCLUSION: AOMWAY COMMANDER V1
General view of the device AOMWAY Commander V1 positions as a relatively VR-helmet, and as a toy for adults. For the first acquaintance with the world of virtual reality, the product from AOMWAY will suit perfectly.
We would like to note that the device showed on the good side, and on the quality of the video, you can appreciate yourself. The manufacturer tried well and made a quality product.
